Steve Deakin is relatively new to the Selkirk Team. He began his career in late 2017. Steve made the transition to Pickleball from Tennis where he was a former ATP ranked player, 12-time Canadian National Champion, and a member of Canada’s Senior World Team. When his passion for Tennis became difficult with shoulder issues, Steve tried Pickleball at his local Recreation Centre in Pitt Meadows, BC in order to stay active and has never looked back. The majority of his travels have taken him to the U.S mostly but it is certainly booming in Canada now as well. Steve is proud to represent Selkirk on the Canadian side as his Country's top Pro Doubles player.

Pickleball is fast-paced and Steve says "played like a chess game in a sense" which he finds enormously intriguing and challenging. The way it encompasses a well rounded game of soft and calculated hard shots suits Steve's style to a tee. He brings an incredible amount of patience and excitement to the game that has played a big part in his recent success.

Steve devotes all of his time to the Pro Pickleball Tour and coaching pickleball at his new Coaching Academy Steve Deakin Pickleball

Playing Doubles and Mixed Doubles has allowed Steve to build an amazing camaraderie with other players of all ages and skill levels. That is the number one reason why he loves this sport. He also loves that it allows him to be competitive with much younger players due to the smaller court size and the reliance on his hand speed. Steve intends to play Pickleball for many years to come!
